Financial Aid Night to be held

The Towanda High School Guidance Office will sponsor a Financial Aid Information Night on Monday, January 9, 2012 at 6:00 p.m. in the new Junior/Senior High School Auditorium. Ms. Marla Kane, Regional Director for the Pennsylvania Higher Education Assistance Agency (PHEAA), will be on hand to present information on the various programs within the Pennsylvania financial aid system. She will also give very specific information on the application process and the correct procedure for completing the online and paper forms for financial aid. The information will be for general purposes for any college. Ms. Kane has done numerous presentations of this type for guidance counselors and parents and comes with many good recommendations on the program she offers.

The program is free of charge and would be valuable for anyone who has a child planning on going to college in the next few years. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact the Guidance Office at 268-2059.

SAT's to be offered at Towanda Jr. Sr. High School

The Towanda Guidance Office is proud to be administering the SAT tests this year on December 3^rd, 2011 and March 10^th, 2012 at the Towanda Jr. Sr. High School. Students may register for the test either online at www.sat.collegeboard.org/register or pick up a registration form in the guidance office to send by mail. Students or parents with questions may contact the guidance office at (570)268-2059.

We are excited to be starting the 2011-12 school year! The first few weeks of school are busy with add/drops and finalizing of student schedules for this year. We will soon be distributing materials to students regarding our services, and assessments that will occur during this school year. Course Requests for the 2011-12 School Year

On Wednesday, January 26th the guidance office will begin the process of master scheduling with your son/daughter for the 2011-12 school year. This year we will be meeting with your child in our computer labs, and completing course requests on the computer. Students will also be able to schedule with us by paper if they do not have the ability to finish their schedule requests in the time allotted to them. The course catalog has been made available for viewing on our school district website at www.tsd.k12.pa.us under the Junior Senior High School tab as well as the Guidance tab.

Students should complete their course requests online or return a course selection form to the guidance office no later than Tuesday, February 1st. We anticipate having a tentative schedule complete sometime in May. Financial Aid Night

The guidance office is sponsoring a financial aid night to be presented by Marla Kane, Regional Director of the Pennsylvania Higher Education Assistance Agency (PHEAA) on Monday, January 9th, 2012 beginning at 6:00 pm in the Towanda Junior Senior High School Auditorium. Students and parents are encouraged to attend to learn important information regarding planning for post secondary education after high school. Prior to the presentation, there will be representatives from local financial institutions in the lobby area outside of the auditorium with information regarding financial planning for college.

November College/Career Mini Fair

The Guidance Office is sponsoring a College/Career Fair on Wednesday, November 10 from 9:39 – 10:19 a.m. in the old gym. The following institutions will be in attendance: Alfred State College, DeVry University, Edinboro University, Elmira College, Lackawanna College, Lycoming College, University of Scranton, U.S. Air Force, U.S. Marines, U.S. Navy. Freshman and sophomores may attend the fair from 9:55 – 10:19; juniors and seniors may attend the fair from 9:39 – 10:19 a.m. All students interested in attending the fair must be signed up by the close of school Tuesday, November 9. Students may sign up in homeroom or in the Guidance Office.

Health Care Career Fair

Towanda Jr. Sr. High School will again be host to the Health Care Career Fair coordinated through the efforts of Bradford County Action, Northern Tier Regional Planning & Development Commission, and The Trehab Center. The Fair is open to students across Bradford County in grades 9 - 12, and will be held on Tuesday, November 9th from 8:30 - 11:00 am in the Towanda Jr. Sr. High School Old Gymnasium.
Some of the agencies that will be in attendance include: Corning Community College, Area Agency on Aging, Northeast PA AHEC, Greater Valley EMS, Mansfield University, ProCare Physical Therapy, Community Resources for Independence, Pennsylvania Department of Health, GST BOCES, PA College of Technology, Northern Tier Counseling, Bradford County Manor, Robert Packer Hospital Respiratory Therapy Program, Luzerne County Community College, Arnot Ogdon School of Nursing, Northern Tier Career Center, The Edge Fitness and Martial Arts, Memorial Hospital – PT/IT/Social Work/Nursing, The Highlands Care Center, Guthrie Health Care Systems - Radiology.

We are excited to begin the 2010 -11 school year here at Towanda Junior Senior High School. We have completed the add/drop process for students in grades 9 -12. We are actively meeting with seniors to begin the process of post secondary planning. Your child received an information packet of grade specific materials in homeroom on September 9th, 2010.
